“Appearing” is also a synonym for “it seems”, so this is not confirmed because they're not sure.

In the Presence of Grizzlies: The Ancient Bond Between Men And Bears, By Doug Peacock, Dr Andrea Peacock 325 lb young male grizzly displaces 120 lb male cougar from his deer kill:
"They see each other at the same instant. The lion lies with the white-tail's haunch between his paws, the deer's neck is broken. The cat's mustache and the white of his jowls are red with blood. The male cougar weighs about 120 pounds. His face turns into a snarl, he hisses, caterwauling at the bear. The grizzly creeps forward, only tweenty feet from the cat, his head lowered and ears flat back against his head. The bear inches toward the lion, who steps clear of his kill. The cougar crouches and then leaps at the bear, stopping a few feet short. The grizzly flinches but pushes forward until they stand face to face, snarling and growling. Suddenly, the bear lunges. The cat is quicker and retreats a few yards. The two carnivores stand motionless and stare at each other. After a few minutes, the lion turns and steps back into the trees. The mountain lion cannot risk serious injury. He relinquishes the deer carcass to the bear. The big cat will make another kill."books.google.com.ar/books?id=xv-dCAAAQBAJ&pg=PA190&dq=portrait:+The+Bear+who+crossed+The+freeway+grows+stronger;+the+grizzly+recognizes+it.+The+mountain+lion+has+...+The+cougar+crouches+and+then+leaps+at+the+bear

A 325 lbs grizzly isn't even adult and a 120 lbs cougar is fully-grown. So that's impressive.

That's what i also thought, It would seem like a 325 lb grizzly is not a full grown adult, but maybe he was an adult, we just dont know because the age is not stated. But if you look at this weight chart from Yellowstone National Park, if you look at the ranges even for the 9+ year old grizzlies, you will see that there are adult male grizzlies that weigh even less than 325 lbs. For example, for the 9 year olds, the smallest grizzly weighed just 136.2 kg (300 lbs). For the 10 year olds, the smallest grizzly weighed just 97.6 kg (215 lbs), most likely a sick specimen though, seems just too small:

In the Presence of Grizzlies: The Ancient Bond Between Men And Bears, By Doug Peacock, Dr Andrea Peacock. This 325 pound grizzly is probably a Montana grizzly. Montana grizzlies average slightly heavier than Wyoming grizzlies. Probably a subadult no older than 6 years old tops.

The cougar is surrounded briefly by a more powerful opponent (the American black bear) and a pack of hounds. That is why the cougar did not climb higher but used his agility to escape by jumping down the tree and escaping the pack.

Reply #2 Time to rest. It was a staged fight. "Classic animal series like Shark Week hosted by the Discovery Channel and Wild America by Marty Stouffer have captivated audiences for years, bringing them closer than ever to nature from the comfort of their living room. Unfortunately what the audience doesn’t know is that many of those wildlife films incorporate unethical behavior including animal harassment, staged scenes, and the use of trained animals." news.mongabay.com/2010/12/the-secrets-of-animal-tv-many-nature-shows-rely-on-unethical-tactics/"Marty Stouffer's stock in trade is incredible film footage mountain lions stalking their prey, an eagle swooping down on a hapless prairie dog. But now critics are saying some of the footage is too good to be true. The wildlife cinematographer and producer of the PBS series "Wild America" has been accused of filming scenes in cages, staging fights (at least one fatal) between animals and using tame animals. Yellowstone National Park bear photographer Steve French, who has seen one mountain lion in the wild in his 15-year career, recalled watching a Stouffer film of a mountain lion pouncing on a bighorn sheep. "To actually have a camera when the mountain lion goes over the crest and another camera miraculously picks up the chase give me a break," French said. The Public Broadcasting Service, which has carried "Wild America" for 11 years, is investigating questions raised about Stouffer's techniques. Stouffer doesn't deny ever arranging a scene during his 25 years of film making but said he does not condone harming animals. He also offered to put disclaimers on documentaries of his that contain staged scenes. "My conscience is clear. I love animals. I'm not a bad guy. I'm not cruel. I don't torture animals. I don't do mean things to make money," he said." www.tampabay.com/archive/1996/02/28/critics-wild-america-too-good-to-be-true/Inviato dal mio 21061119DG utilizzando Tapatalk

Btw a male aggressive bear would be a threat to a mother cougar. Even mother tigers fear brown bears.

It doesn't say that every interaction was staged, so we just dont know. Dogs and cats have chased bears away in real unedited videos, so it wouldn't surprise me a pissed off mother cougar could drive a bear away, even a large male. Bears have different personalities, one might stay and fight while another might run. I dont like to make excuses for absolutely everything that doesn't favor bears, like that famous video, so i say that particular bear is a punk, same way i say those tigers and lions running away in videos are also punks.

Well but that's what tiger fanatics do. When they see a video that is in disfavor of the tiger, they'll be quick to scream "Fake! The tiger was juvenile! The tiger didn't want to fight!".

Well, that's exactly what makes them a hypocrite. Prime example, "you know who" doesn't accept a single captive account of bears killing/defeating tigers, yet he loves to post those captive accounts of tigers killing polar bears. Well not me, for example, i accept most accounts of lions killing/defeating bears that are from normal sources (not religion sources), and i accept the lions killing polar bears accounts (except that i state the obvious, that those are sick/weak/overheated polar bears), so all this means that i can post all the bears winning accounts without being called a hypocrite as i mostly accept the other side's accounts. Another example, Brobear doesn't accept a single captive account against bears, therefore he stopped posting the accounts favoring bears, so that's rational.

5. The accounts of cougars killing mature bears in fights are merely unauthentic stories. (BOOK: The new nature library, Rossevelt, Milton Skinner) Add James E. Cardoza, wildlife biologist who studied cougars and bears in their habitat and Warren W. Ballard, an important authority of NPS. Also that new library is from a naturalist and mammalogist named Witmer. No authenticated instance of a cougar killing adult bear = fact by biologists You can stfu Prime.
