Reply 95. I wonder what the Siberian tiger would vent its frustration on according to the article. It is not unusual for animals to miss their prey especially in the early stages of their life. Even eagles miss their prey as well.

/\ According to Peter, most of the animal trainers he knows seem to work with bears before big cats.
I agree bears are not as showy than big cats but I doubt they kill quicker generally.
Most bears like brown and black bears make their prey suffer slowly as they bite which ever body part is available. The same goes with the polar bear but being more predatory instinctively knows where to bite (e.g. being the only bear to kill with skull bites so far and attacks walruses at their supposedly vital parts - walruses are harder to kill than bovids).
Bears have greater brute strength and are more unpredictable than big cats that is something we agree.

Regarding bears being able to kill in more ways could it because of being better grappler and their ability to use tools? Eg polar bears throwing rocks on walruses.
Just notice this:
"I've seen a bear take a pole away from a trainer and darn near beat him to death. If they get to you with a swipe of their paw, they'll either lay you wide open or crack your skull."

I agree with this, cats should kill quicker.
No, its because bears could kill by attacking any part of the body, head, face, neck, spine, legs, whatever. Cats just go for the neck.
