It will be interesting to see how lions and gorillas interact especially when wildlife was much more numerous.

Book, Stories of the Gorilla Country.
Author: Paul Belloni Du Chaillu, French-American traveler, zoologist, and anthropologist:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Du_Chaillu"My men were remarkably silent, for they were going of an expedition of more than usual risk: for the male gorilla is literally the king of the forest-the king of the equatorial regions. He and the crested lion of Mount Atlas are the fiercest and strongest beasts of that continent. The lion of South Africa can not be compared with either for strength and courage."
"I knew that we were about to pit ourselves against an animal that even the enormously large leopards of the mountains fear, which the elephants let alone, and which perhaps has driven away the lion out of this territory: for the "king of beasts" so numerous elsewhere in Africa, is not met with in the land of the gorilla."books.google.com/books?id=hwASAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA65&dq=by+the+tracks,+it+was+easy+to+know+that+there+were+several+gorillas&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&source=gb_mobile_search&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwikpfHQp8n0AhUEZzABHfWQB6wQ6AF6BAgFEAM

/\ lion fantards will cry a river after seeing that. Out of all those quotes at reply #22, just one is very unlikely, and its where he says that perhaps gorillas have driven lions out of their territory, but then again that's a zoologist and anthropologist talking, so who knows. He was the first modern European outsider to confirm the existence of gorillas. All the other quotes he stated seem reliable to me.

The adult male is from 5 to 6 feet in height, and is one of the most terrible animals to be encountered, being even able to maintain a successful conflict with the lion and leopard. The hands and arm are endowed with enormous strength, enabling it, it is said, to break with ease trees of 3 or 4 inches in diameter, while the sunken eyes and projecting rows of enormous canine teeth, give it an indescribably hideous and terrific appearance.books.google.com.ar/books?id=qSVUAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA581&dq=GORILLA+;+an+anthropoid+ape+

Captain Benjamin Burbridge-American hunter and explorer:
The gorilla is unafraid in the jungle, and bows to no animal. He has been known to strangle a full-grown leopard, and fears not even the lion. There are few instances of the gorilla being killed by combat with other jungle beasts.trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/130601961/14773854

Book: Recent Remarkable Discoveries in Central Africa. Author: Paul Belloni Du Chaillu, French-American traveler, zoologist, and anthropologist. He became famous in the 1860s as the first modern European outsider to confirm the existence of gorillas.
"I felt a pleasing terror, at the idea of encountering the monarch of these vast solitudes, for be it known, that this animal far exceeds the leopard, tiger and panther in strength, and the natives aver that the lion rather shuns (avoids) the combat. I was also aware that if the gorilla had the advantage in a fight, there was little or no chance for the life of his opponent."books.google.com.ar/books?id=SZNRAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA55&dq=the+spot+

Captain Benjamin Burbridge-American hunter and explorer:
"It was a problem of adapting the methods of the American hunter to the African jungle. I had noticed that wherever a gorilla family roams, a leopard isn't far away. The leopard of Africa is a cowardly beast, and would never risk his handsome pelt in a fight with the gallant adult gorilla. But give him a chance to sneak upon a baby, straggling in the rear, and he'll pounce on the youngster, sink his fangs in the baby's neck and drag him off to safety and a feast. There is a fierce feud of the forest between the leopard and the gorilla, and soon i noticed that the old gorillas would run charging and bellowing at the mere sound of the uncanny howl of the leopard."books.google.com.ar/books?id=apJZAAAAIBAJ&pg=PA30&dq=Gorilla/leopard&article_id=1405

Of course gorillas is less dangerous to humans in comparison to leopard. Gorilla is a herbivore whereas leopard an apex predator that preys on primates.

Of course gorillas is less dangerous to humans in comparison to leopard. Gorilla is a herbivore whereas leopard an apex predator that preys on primates. That was what I was going to say . Leopards are apex predators in areas where tigers and lions are absent. Silverback gorillas are larger and stronger than leopards but as you pointed out, they are nowhere near as predatory.
