I donot know well but its just my guess that i donot agree that mexican grizzlies were small bears. I mean they were well-sized grizzlies if not large like their californian cousins. Just see some if these examples:- It say that the the males weighed up to 315kg while femakes were smaller. A 315kg bear is no doubt a very strong and massive bear. If he weighs over 315kg so the male grizzly of mexico must atleast average over 250kg. beargorillarealm.proboards.com/post/1290If we see this picture, so we can easily say that the bear is over 6 feet. Since the mexican people average most 5'6 or 5'7, the bear must be atleast 6'2-6'5. The picture shows that those bears were well-sized. beargorillarealm.proboards.com/post/1293In these pictures, the female skin hanged is atleast 6'6 feet high on ground, so in real life she was no doubt over 6 feet. The bear picture, killed by a hunter also looks well sized and i think it must weigh over 200kg and must have a height of 6'3. beargorillarealm.proboards.com/post/3465However, those were just my guesses. Am i right ir wrong? Tell me.

Almost all sources show that these bears were large. I searched it on google and they said the same that they measured about 6 feet tall and males weighed up to 318 or 315 kg. A bear over 300 kg, is not a small bear, its a well-sized bear if atleaat not large. Further another evidence supporting their large size is that the images show that those bears were large well. The bear hanged between two persons shows that those bear could easily measure over 6 feet and the weight be over 250kg (reply#3, second photo). The bear lying dead near the hunters looks to surpass 300kg weight and 6 feet length (reply#20, first photo). So my conclusion is that this bear size must be similar to the ussuri brown bear who could also weigh upto 300kg. According to the current data, i would say a fully-grown mexican male grizzly bear weighs almost 630 pounds and measure almost 6'2 feet.

"The mexican silver grizzly is the smallest grizzly species. Even being smaller, this can often weigh over 226 kilograms".
"This slow graceful animal can charge at high speeds and has been known to run faster at hill upwards than downwards. They can run as fast as 65 km per hour, fast enough to catch horse or deer."
"The strength is immense. One story told that a mexican grizzly killed a horse and dragged it 90 metres and once a grizzly killed a bison and dragged it off."

So the Ussuri brown bear is much larger, just at averages it overlaps with the largest specimens of the Mexican grizzly.
Oh, i see that. Agree that the ussuri brown bear is larger. The above video post shows that that mexican silver grizzly often weighed over 226 kg. I would think that a male mexican grizzly bear must weigh 225-315kg and about 250 at average. The height must be over 6'2. So its a well sized bear.

There can be found some very interesting books on the topic of the 'historical grizzly' on Amazon. I read several, perhaps a half-dozen or so. These tales were very consistent in the fact that the grizzlies of the Great Plains were much larger than the Rocky Mountain grizzlies ( such as those of Yellowstone ). Slightly smaller than the Rocky Mountain grizzlies were the barren ground grizzlies. The smallest and least aggressive grizzlies were the Mexican grizzlies while the largest, similar in size to the coastal brown bears of Alaska, were the highly aggressive California grizzlies. ( I read all of these over the past 20+ years. Can't remember the details of all, but most of these deal with grizzlies of the 1800s ) 1- California Grizzly - by Tracy Irwin Storer. 2- Bear - History of a Fallen King - by Michel Pastoureau. 3- Cowboys, Mountain Men, and Grizzly Bears - by Matthew P. Mayo. 4- The Beast That Walks Like Man - by Harold McCracken. 5- Grizzly Years: In Search of the American Wilderness - by Doug Peacock. 6- Notorious Grizzly Bear - by W.P. Hubbard, Seale Harris. 7- The Grizzly Bear: The Narrative of a Hunter-naturalist - by William H. Wright. 8- Grizzlies and Grizzled Old Men - by Mike Lapinski. 9- The Works of Theodore Roosevelt. 10- Man Meets Grizzly - by Young and Beyers. 11- The California Grizzly - bear in mind - by Susan Snyder. 12- The Grizzly 'Our Greatest Wild Animal' - by Enos A. Mills. 13- California's Day of the Grizzly - by Willaim B. Secrest. 14- Hunting the Grisly and Other Sketches (annotated) - by Theodore Roosevelt. 15- American Serengeti: The Last Big Animals of the Great Plains - by Dan Flores. 16- American Bears - Selections of the Writings of Theodore Roosevelt. 17- Notorious Grizzly Bears - W.P. Hubbard.

The natives of the mesoamerica, whete there were no bears, revered jaguars, eagles and coyotes the most. Grizzlies were respected in tge northern mexico where there were jaguars and bears. There i never heard of natives honoring the jaguar more than the bear. Soon, i will discuss the topic of jaguar vs grizzly bear in native mexico culture becuase ii have got a lot of information and details ablut this topic. Hope that would tell you the reality.🙂 so, the southern Mexican natives honoured the Jaguar and the northern Mexican natives honoured the grizzly bear? Never know that thanks! True, several of the books I've read concerning the "historic grizzly" said that the Mexican grizzly was the smallest, most vegetarian, and least aggressive of the grizzlies. Just the opposite of the Californian.

See here: beargorillarealm.proboards.com/thread/210/mexican-grizzlies-existed-mesoamerican-civilizations?page=1&scrollTo=7261I have shown solid proof that brown bears don't exist in mesoamerican geograghy and so not in their culture. While, bears were highly and more revered than jagaars in south western america. Anyways, i am just curious about the average weight of an adult male mexican grizzly. Would it have been around 230kg? I have shown much proof in pics and others that those bears were smaller than their cousins but weren't pygmies, they were still good sized bears.

I dont think so. That would be larger than Yellowstone grizzlies, and it is known that the Mexican grizzly was smaller than grizzlies from Northern USA and Canada.
