Reply 55. This is the second biggest polar bear scientifically measured. I don’t trust the measurements of trophy hunters.

/\ I stand corrected . Regardless scientific measurement is more reliable than that of trophy hunter measurements.

The article also talks about grizzlies entering polar bear territory. The surprising thing is most articles do not specifically mention that it is the older male polar bears that actually stand their ground (someone posted the article in Shaggygod but the link is not longer available). Male polar bears in Churchill according to Big Bons can be as small as 600 pounds, not sure where he got the info from but male polar bears from Svalbard are smaller than the average male.
I believe that the larger male polar bears (like the ones from Foxe Basin) do not have grizzly invasion.

Maybe he meant subadults. Churchill is in West Hudson Bay, and according to this chart here, (the second one), the males average just slightly over 400 kg (881 lbs)
beargorillarealm.proboards.com/post/159/thread
(The first chart has 94 males of more than 5 years old with an average of 489 kg (1078 lbs), but that just says "Hudson Bay" so i think that covers all Hudson bay, but Churchill is on the west shore of Hudson Bay, so only the second chart covers that)

Well as we both know, 5 year old male polar bears are only sub adults and not yet sexually mature. Male polar bears sexually mature at six years old.

Well as we both know, 5 year old male polar bears are only sub adults and not yet sexually mature. Male polar bears sexually mature at six years old. And that's why its weird, because the average still was 1078 lbs. So imagine if only 8+ year olds were included in that sample.
