POLAR BEAR ATTACKS SUBMARINE
The submarine surfaced in an area of polar ice between Alaska and the North Pole. Arctic submariners learned to look out for polar bears long ago – especially before disembarking onto the ice. In 2003 a large (700-800lb) polar bear was seen approaching the USS Connecticut (SSN-22). The bear loitered around the submarine’s rear rudder for approximately 40 minutes.
The bear tried to take a bite out of the rudder but of course found it inedible! The bear stayed in the area of the broken ice around the rudder for a while, presumably thinking a seal might use it as an air hole. The bear finally left when he heard the noise of an approaching helicopter. When an officer on board the submarine first looked around outside via the periscope he noted that the submarine was being stalked by a hostile polar bear. The periscope camera was turned on resulting in these photos of a polar bear chewing on the subs rear rudder. The damage was said to be minor!spikeworld.co.uk/polar-bear-attacks-submarine/

Reply 8. Stan is the largest scientifically verified male polar bear. The pictures of him are relatively young as older male polar bears are a lot more yellowish.

Polar bears can appear yellow due to food stuck in their fur. Its also noticeable he doesn't have any injuries. Male polar bears are very aggressive during the mating season, and can sometimes kill each other. An older male would sustain some injuries. Either way, according to Wood, a male polar bear at a weight of 2210 pounds was also on record, but it is considered to be overrated among scientists.

Photo from a 1960 issue of Sports Illustrated of the hunter standing next to the taxidermic mount of the biggest wild polar bear ever recorded. He shot and killed it in Alaska. It weighed 2210 pounds. This was about the average size of the extinct giant short-faced bear.

/\ I am not sure if his weights were exaggerated. Trophy hunters often do that. I think he must be probably around the same weight as Stan. 12 feet is also skin stretched.

Exaggerated weights by hunters happen all the time.
