DOMINANT MALE BEAR "LURCH", #814, KATMAI NATIONAL PARK Lurch on a bear carcass . In early October 2013, an unidentified bear died on the beach near the Brooks Camp Campground. While no knows the circumstances of the bear's death, 814 Lurch quickly took advantage of the situation and claimed the carcass for himself. Bears will often partially bury large animal carcasses. In these photos, the dead bear is not visible. It is buried or cached under the mound of earth that 814 sits on top of. 814 Lurch is the most dominant bear that regularly used the Brooks River in the fall of 2013. His large size allows him to successfully defend carcasses from awww.alamy.com/stock-photo-lurch-on-a-bear-carcass-in-early-october-2013-an-unidentified-bear-176473643.html

/\ I have read this book before. It says the Kodiak bear can weigh up to 1700 pounds.
It also says polar bears can weigh up to 1600 pounds but the average male weighs 900 pounds while average females weigh 700 pounds.
I guess the average weights at 900 pounds could include the average weight of male polar bears overall from these in Svalbard in Churchill all the way to these in Foxe Basin.
Back to topic, the Kodiak bear at maximum weight can grow as large or larger than a polar bear if left in disturbed by poachers.

/\ Such violent fights. I doubt a human can survive long with that injury.

Brown Bear Strolling on the Shore, Cook Inlet, Alaska Female Brown Bear strolls along the shoreline. We photographed this bear in 2010 (see our Reflecting Brown Bear and Brown Bear Clamming images) and she was as mellow and photogenic this time. Cook Inlet, Southwest Alaska.

Alaska, one of the most impressive brown bears ever. Look at that shoulder hump and front limbs:

A kodiak bear encounters a bengal tiger, who he woke up on accident. The bear, not having seen any animal like the tiger in it's habitat before, is curious. The tiger, however, is mortified. It could tell that this thing isn't a sloth bear, despite being similar in body shape. Eventually, the kodiak bear makes his way to a marsh in search of fish to eat. He finds a young saltwater crocodile resting by the shallower side of the marsh. Not too long after that, it encounters a larger individual. After also witnessing one take down a water buffalo with relative ease, it could conclude that these animals are not ones it wants to stay near. now-hungry kodiak encounters a water buffalo, and after a short chase the bear eventually subdues the rowdy bovid, albeit with a fair bit of difficulty. As the kodiak bear was eating it's hard-earned kill, it eventually heard and saw a male bengal tiger approaching the bear. Upon realizing the sheer scale of the ursid in front of it, it quickly backed down. (I just don't see a tiger being able to scare a determined kodiak bear away from a kill) The kodiak bear's senses guide it to a feeding ground, where a large group of unrelated gaur herds have congregated to feed. One of the bulls notices the kodiak bear, and the two make eye contact. A fight is unlikely to occur here, as the bear is not hungry or desparate.

The curious kodiak is eventually driven away from the forest, as a large indian rhinoceros gives chase to it.\\\

scenario for today: A kodiak bear encounters an asian elephant. The elephant is confused to say the least. It too, like the tiger, could conclude that this giant ursid is in fact not a sloth bear. The bear is equally confused, not having seen anything like the elephant back on Kodiak island. bestiary.info/ai-generated-images-of-animals-not-fighting-t672.html#p9709
