WATCH: Determined bear finally gets his birdfeeder treat
TOWNSEND, Mass. — How would you like to wake up to find this guy in your backyard?
This black bear was determined to get at a bird feeder in a backyard in Townsend, Massachusetts, on Thursday.
He scoped out the entire yard trying to figure out the best way to score the tasty treat.
After walking around the yard — sometimes upright on two legs — he opted to climb a tree to get at the feeder.
Watch the video above to see the bold bear reach the bird feeder.

Bear shot dead by 70-year-old hunter in France
A 70-year-old man has shot dead a brown bear in south-western France after it attacked and injured him while he was out hunting wild boar, officials say.
The man reportedly fired two shots with a rifle at the female bear, who was wandering with her cubs at the time, killing the animal instantly.
Local media report that the man suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to a hospital in Toulouse.
Police are now investigating the Saturday afternoon incident.
The man, part of a local hunting association in the Seix region of Ariège, had been bitten by the bear several times, causing damage to the arteries in his legs, police said.
AFP news agency reports that a source close to the case said the man was in a serious condition.
Police said they responded to an emergency call at about 15:30 local time (14:30 GMT) and when they arrived at the scene, they discovered the dead bear just metres from where the hunter was lying injured.
A member of the same hunting association, who was not named, told local news website La Depeche that he heard a call for help on a radio the group uses while hunting, and made his way to the scene of the attack.
"One person managed to stop the bleeding until help arrived," he said.
A local council official in Ariège, Christine Tequi, said that such attacks were "what we feared".
"Today, you can really see that cohabitation is complicated," she told AFP.
France began reintroducing brown bears to the Pyrenees after numbers of the animals plummeted in the 1990s.
But the move has sparked protests from local farmers who say the bears pose a risk to their livestock.

New calculation method results in the largest grizzly bear population
The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem grizzly bear population is the largest it has ever been. It's estimated that almost 1,070 grizzly bears are in northwest Wyoming and parts of Montana and Idaho. That number is much higher than the previous estimates which put the grizzly's population estimate at around 750 bears.
Frank van Manen, the team leader of the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team which calculates the population, said they are using a less conservative method to count the bears.
"It was a recovering population that you didn't want to overestimate," he said. "And so by design, it ended up underestimating the population. And that was shown in a publication from the study team back in 2008."
The Interagency Grizzly Bear Study team uses a system that plugs several data points into a model to calculate a population number.
One data point is how many female grizzlies with cubs have been spotted that year. Van Manen said that number is often conservative, partly due to the distance criteria of 30 kilometers between bear families.
"Say it's 70 females with cubs on the ground. We can only identify maybe 50 of those simply because that criterion was too conservative to separate observations out into the unique clusters of individuals that they actually belong to," he said.
Van Manen said they decreased the distance to16 kilometers for a better estimate. This is the first year they are using the new approach, but it appears to be more accurate of the actual situation on the ground.
"Because the population estimate is higher and we look at mortality, the percentage of mortality of the population is actually more in line with some independent methods of estimating survival rates, for example," he said. "So, that actually puts extra credence into these new values."
Van Manen said management of the grizzlies will remain the same.

Video: 'THE fattest bear we have ever seen' spotted on Minnesota trail camera
At least one black bear in Minnesota is going to have a great sleep this winter.
The Voyageurs Wolf Project, which studies wolves in and around Voyageurs National Park in far northern Minnesota, captured a very large bear on its trail camera recently. Here's the video:
"This might be THE fattest bear we have ever seen in our area! How much do you think this porker weighs?! Unfortunately, we only got one video of this beauty but it is enough to appreciate the bear's curves and figure...it worked hard for that body!" the Voyageurs Wolf Project wrote on social media.
Black bears in Minnesota typically eat green vegetation in the spring, ants in June and a variety of berries in the summer and nuts in the fall, the Minnesota DNR says. They're also known to break into garbage cans, chow on birdseed and crops.
Adult black bears typically weigh between 150 to 500 pounds and are five to six feet long, according to the Minnesota DNR. However, well-fed bears can be heavier. The North American Bear Center says the heaviest black bear on record weighed 1,000 pounds and was shot in New Brunswick in 1972, while the heaviest known female weighed 520 pounds and was found in northeastern Minnesota in 1993.
There have also been several reports of hunters harvesting black bears weighing more than 700 pounds, including a hunter in northwestern Minnesota in 2017, according to the Bemidji Pioneer.
Researchers with the Voyageurs Wolf Project discovered the video of the bear while going through trail camera footage from the summer and fall, and have been sharing some "gems" like this on social media, including of a bobcat and her two kittens (a first for them), a lynx, which are uncommon in the area, and of course wolves and their pups.

2 women found guilty of interfering with bear hunters
ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) - Two Caledonia County women have been found guilty of interfering with bear hunters.
It happened back in October n Groton State Forest. State Game Wardens say three bear hunters using hounds spotted a bear and followed it onto private property where it climbed a tree. They left it unharmed and returned to their truck.
Police say that’s where they found Donna Babic and Betty Eastman letting air out of their tires. Both women are from Groton but authorities say neither owned the property. Wardens say the women then let their German Shepherd loose and it attacked one of the leashed hounds.
The court fined each woman $262 and banned them from hunting, fishing, and trapping for one year.
“Vermonters don’t always agree on wildlife management, especially when it comes to big game,” Fish and Wildlife Chief Game Warden Colonel Jason Batchelder said in a statement. “Even so, I would ask that Vermonters respect one another’s constitutional right to hunt. Intentionally interfering with legal hunters in any fashion will result in court action, especially in a potentially dangerous fashion as we saw in this case.”
