It is often stated on websites that gorillas could theoretically bench 4,000-6,000lbs, but this would be far from the truth. It would definitely be lower, maybe even non-existent. It's hard to say. Bench pressing involves lying on a bench, lowering a barbell to the chest, and then pushing it upward using the arms and chest muscles. This movement requires a certain level of coordination, stability, and control over the weights being lifted. While gorillas possess great strength, their anatomy, including the position and structure of their shoulder joints, is not designed for the same range of motion and precision required for a typical bench press. Gorillas primarily rely on their upper body strength for activities like short climbs, pulling off vegetation and knuckle-walking. They have adapted for these movements, which involve more pulling and gripping motions rather than the pushing and pressing motions involved in a bench press.
So in short, they would excel in pulling and gripping based exercises, but would suffer in more dexterous/advanced exercises such as benching.

Yeah i agree, that is a complete exaggeration, but we know most non-scientific websites have wrong data.

What do you guys think about the claim that gorilla is 20x as strong as a man and can lift 2 tons?

What do you guys think about the claim that gorilla is 20x as strong as a man and can lift 2 tons? Well, based on observations and estimates from experts, it is believed that an adult male gorilla has the potential to lift up to 1,800-2,000 pounds (800-900 kilograms). This estimate is derived from studying their anatomy, muscle structure, and comparing them to other primates of substantial size.

I would say that is very reasonable taking into consideration that the word record bench press for a human is 1350 lbs.

Btw a study conducted in 1924 presented a test where a male gorilla had to throw a 450kg item (I can't remember what it was exactly). That is 5x times more than what the average human can throw, although, humans are more dexterous and this is why they can actually throw a lot of weight around.

I would struggle to see how a gorilla could do such an exercise with its anatomical features. Strongmen boulder liftings and the like may be better comparisons. It's hard to say really.

I think we have to still realise that 1800lbs is A LOT. Dairy cattle weigh around 700+kg! Gorillas are crazy. That is a lot of weight to try and lift!

So was the gorilla able to throw that item successfully?

Never seen any study about brown bear white muscle fibers.I have heard that some say that cats have a good number of white fibre muscles which is true but they lack stamina when it comes to running (compared to bears and canines) but are much faster and to a lesser degree fighting (compared to bears) though they are still good fighters and can beat canines. I know bears have more red fibre muscles due to more stamina but due to their brute strength, it is safe to say they have some white fibre muscle like the gorilla does. Canines despite having stiff limbs have the most red fibre muscles.

An actual zoologist that specializes in primates stating that a silverback is stronger than any lion. In minute 1:00 he says he is a zoologist and works at the zoo, and in minute 8:20 the zoologist says strength goes to the gorilla over the lion:
