Of course, that whole article is talking about wolf packs killing black bears, mostly young and in their dens.
For example:
No grizzlies in Minnesota of course.

I think the largest bear a wolf pack ever will be the American bears. Even then exceptionally large males are probably left alone.

Reply#119, its a great find. Of course, killing of weaker opponent and sometimes devouring it is a common thing in predators. A leopard or hyena would kill a subadult lion and cub but generally these two always get dominated by lions. Similarly, wolfs kill or even eat bears (mostly black bears) which are either female or young, but generally got dominated by bears, especially ADULT MALE BROWN BEARS, the king of the beasts.

No grizzlies in Minnesota of course.[/quote] "No, not any more, although grizzly bears may have lived within 50 miles of Ely 5,000 to 8,000 years ago. At that time, much of Minnesota was prairie. Grizzly bear skulls have been found as far east as Ontario and Labrador." bear.org/do-grizzlies-live-in-minnesota/

According to Brad Jones wolves are likely to take weak and young bears.

In the wild, pack animals seem to be more cautious when facing off a much larger predator even though they have a big advantage in term of numbers.

A four year old female brown bear isn't even adult, so that's impressive.

A four year old female brown bear isn't even adult, so that's impressive. Its a subadult. Never thought a subadult female could displace 3 or 4 wolves. Incredible.

Actually female bears get sexually mature six months after that time if not mistaken. Still impressive regardless. They become fully grown after giving birth to their first litter of cubs. Male brown bears take longer to become full grown, something we all know.

STAHLER: Yeah, once the bear leaves and goes into willows the wolves’ postures change and they seem content that the bear is out of the way and the threat is removed. We have had wolves kill bears in Yellowstone. It is extremely rare and it’s usually cubs-of-the-year, but they don’t target bears as food. planetjh.com/2013/09/11/wolf-vs-bear-showdown/This account was posted by Prime, who believen to prove a point when it actually says that wolves unusually eat bears and that it's mostly cubs. Prime can't read XD

Small polar bear takes on 3 wolves. Note: Bertie Grégory said a large wolf pack could take down a polar bear but that quote is out of the count because he has no experience observing wolf and bear interactions in the wild. Douglas Smith, Daniel R. Strahler, Warren B. Ballard, etc. on the hand they did and say bears have the upper hand against wolves most of time no matter the pack numbers. Here's the size comparison between the polar bear and the wolf. Here's a 600 pounds grizzly compared to an alpha wolf.
